The culture of meeting up at coffeehouses goes back hundreds of years. These were places where poets, merchants, and revolutionaries would gather to engage with the big ideas of their day. The unique culture of Viennese coffeehouses is today considered a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Our mission is to recreate a part of that special atmosphere in our own small way.
A Coffeehouse Conference is a gathering of ~35 curious people that have many hobbies. It is a half-day prepared program consisting of short prepared talks, discussion groups, interactive sharing, and an afterparty.
Every iteration is a bit different! The common thread is plenty of chances to have small group discussions on big topics.
Short talks to the group introducing a interesting topic.
Small group conversations to dive deeper into the topics.
Record the ideas that arose.
Questioning pop wisdom.
What might hype trends tell us about being human?
Language learning in the modern age.
Decay, death, and the transience of things.
Affordable housing.
Computers and happiness.
At the moment, we only run sessions in Zürich, Switzerland.
A big thank you to all the participants and volunteers who make this a great experience every time!
